(Newser) – Tesla Motors is partnering with AT&T for on-board Internet access in its electric marvel, the Model S. Besides adding the ability to surf the Internet and watch videos in the car, CNET reports the cellular connection, modem, and SIM card will also communicate performance data for remote maintenance.

Considering most people with the means to purchase a Tesla already have a smart phone with Internet access and bluetooth, this feature seems unnecessary. I can already dock my internet enabled phone over bluetooth to play spotify over the sound system of my lowly GM vehicle.

Needs an input lockout that disables any incoming data while the wheels are rolling. Display only, limited to navigation and onboard systems.
