Two members of the National Guard were shot today at a Navy base in Millington, Tennessee, but both are expected to survive, reports WMC-TV in Memphis. A suspect is in custody, and the AP says he worked as a recruiter for the National Guard but had just been fired. Police say other members of the Guard had him in custody by the time officers arrived.

"I'm sure there could have been more injury if they hadn't taken him in custody or gotten him restrained," says the local police chief. The shooting took place inside a National Guard Armory located on an unsecured part of the Navy base, reports the Memphis Commercial Appeal. Authorities say the shooter used a handgun to shoot one victim in the leg and the other in the foot. (More Millington Navy Base stories.)
