(Newser) – The first stone of what will be the world’s tallest statue has been laid in India. The planned statue—dubbed The Statue of Unity—will stand 597 feet tall in Gujarat, where the world’s third-largest dam currently resides. The monument will honor Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a well-known Indian politician who helped bring together all of India’s self governing states after gaining independence from Britain, and will steal the honor from China’s Spring Temple of Buddha, which is 500 feet tall. And it carries a $340 million price tag—a mix of public funds and private donations.

$340M for a statue? And, they don't feed the poor? India needs to be cut off from world funding, until they get their priorities straight.

If only Sardar Patel had been India's first Prime Minister instead of that f*ck up and self serving jacka*s Nehru....India would be so much more developed.
