An Army lieutenant accused of sexually assaulting several young girls will be allowed to make an unusual defense at trial: his brother did it, the AP reports. DNA samples have linked the officer, Aaron Lucas, to three of the crimes, but the siblings share the same DNA. "I have never seen" this defense used, says a criminal defense attorney. "The only time I have seen it was on 'Law and Order: SVU.'" A judge said it would be "inappropriate" to stop Lucas' lawyers from offering up his brother as a possible suspect.

Lucas denies having attacked a girl in Alabama in 2007, another in Texas in 2009, and 11 more in Colorado between 2009 and 2012—and says his brother Brian Frederick Lucas lived in Alabama and Texas when the earlier crimes took place. The brother hasn't been charged yet, and hasn't commented publicly, but investigators say he denies any involvement in the attacks. (More sex assault stories.)
