Hugh Jackman says he's been treated for skin cancer.   (Instagram)

(Newser) – Hugh Jackman has just become a walking PSA for sunscreen. The Wolverine star posted a photo of himself on Instagram with a bandaged nose and this caption, reports E! Online: "Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked. Boy, was she right! I had a (basal) cell carcinoma. Please don't be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!" Deb is his wife of 17 years, Deborra-Lee Furness, notes the LA Times. Basal cell carcinoma is a common form of skin cancer that frequently shows up on the face and neck. More details on that at the Mayo Clinic website.

Basal cell is no big deal unless you ignore the spot too long. I have had five of them. Anytime my face is going to be in the sun more than a couple of minutes, I use SPF 100 sunscreen. Don't just rely on a dermatologist. I found four of my five spots and I had to argue with the dermatologist about one of them he did not think was cancer. He ended up removing 1" x 1/2" of skin.
