Mitt Spending Big in Super Tuesday States

Posted Jan 31, 08 9:28 PM CST in Politics

(Newser) – The Romney campaign revealed today it will make a major ad buy in California and several other February 5 states. A spokesman said Mitt made the decision this morning, CBS reports; a small advertising budget would have signaled the campaign didn’t like its chances for the nomination. Romney, worth roughly $250 million, has spent about $40 million of his own money on this election.

How John McCain—who outspent Romney slightly in Florida—will respond to Mitt’s moneybags is unclear, though Mac advisers suggested they’ll rely largely on their candidate’s ability to get attention naturally, the Times adds. Romney may even put cash into the Northeast—where his chances are slim—just to force Mac's pocketbook.
