(Newser) – A Florida man accused of killing his wife and son with a crossbow was found dead in a hotel room after police say he slit his own throat. According to authorities, 53-year-old Pedro Maldonado's violent rampage began Monday in his family's home when he murdered his wife, 47-year-old Monica, and 17-year-old son, Pedro Jr., with the handheld weapon. Then, Maldonado allegedly drove 460 miles from Weston to Tallahassee to try to kill his other son, 21-year-old Jose, who is currently a student a Florida State University. Police say that when Maldonado missed and only hit Jose's ear, he then tried to choke his son. Luckily, Jose was able to get away—though his father escaped. Authorities eventually found Maldonado dead in a hotel room in Tallahassee yesterday.
