What visitors see now. Sounds like it won't be back soon...   (

(Newser) – The much-maligned McDonald's employee resource website was shut down yesterday, after weathering a series of bad press over the tone-deaf advice it has handed out. This is, of course, the site that advised its workers to sell their stuff for extra cash, remember to tip the pool boy and au pair, and steer clear of fast food when possible. In the latter two instances, McDonald's attempted to defend itself in part by saying a third-party vendor provided the content to the McResource Line website.

Visits to the website as of yesterday returned this message: "We'll Be Back Soon! We are temporarily performing some maintenance in order to provide you with the best experience possible. Please excuse us while these upgrades are being made." Well, maybe not "soon." McDonald's confirmed to CNN that it had taken down the website. Per a rep: "Between links to irrelevant or outdated information, along with outside groups taking elements out of context, this created unwarranted scrutiny and inappropriate commentary. None of this helps our McDonald's team members." CNBC reports that team members looking for help can still access it via a phone hotline. McDonald's doesn't need a website--it needs to pay higher wages and quit expecting taxpayers to pick up their slack. And not only McDonalds but every other corporation who pays law wages. I keep asking--why is the government putting up with this abuse of taxpayer's money. And of course--the answer--they are in bed together.

This is probably for the best for McDonalds. Hopefully they will come up with a much better website.
