Tiger Holds Lead at Sandy Dubai

Posted Feb 1, 08 11:39 PM CST in Sports    Most Covered

(Newser) – It wasn't pretty but he'll take it, as Tiger Woods overcame the distractions of clicking cameras, high winds, and blowing sand to retain a one-shot lead after two rounds in the Dubai Desert Classic. The putter was his nemesis in round two, as it was in this tournament last year, as he missed several 10- and 12-footers, reports the AP.

One shot behind is Ireland's Damien McGrane, the 319th-ranked player in the world, whose followers numbered about a dozen - and that was counting his two sisters. He can expect that to change today as he'll be paired with golf's equivalent of Michael Jordan. "That's our ambition, play alongside (Woods)," said McGrane. Sitting in third is defending champion Henrik Stenson.
