Oprah's Back on Campaign Trail

Posted Feb 2, 08 6:55 AM CST in Politics

(Newser) – Oprah Winfrey is getting back on the campaign trail, reports the New York Times. Insiders say she will join Barack Obama's wife Michelle and Caroline Kennedy at a rally in Los Angeles tomorrow, aiming to sway women voters Obama's way before Tuesday's crucial vote. Oprah's credited with having helped boost Obama to his Iowa and South Carolina wins, but she's been out of the spotlight since December.

Obama is lagging behind Hillary Clinton in California polls, and doesn't plan to appear in the state himself before the primary.  A reporter  asked him yesterday if he was "giving up" on California ahead of Super Tuesday. “We’ll see," said Obama, smiling. "I don’t share that view.” The Los Angeles Times, the state's most influential newspaper,  endorsed Obama yesterday.
