(Newser) – A man who was accused of murdering his mother and stepfather and living with their plastic-wrapped bodies in a basement escaped from a South Carolina mental facility yesterday. Jason Mark Carter, 39, was found not guilty by reason of insanity after the 2006 murders. The details of his escape are still unclear, but local station WIS-TV reports Carter was working at a supply office somewhere on the hospital's campus. Carter's mental health condition reportedly requires medication, and without it, he could be a threat to himself or others. It's unclear if he had any medication when he made his escape. According to a press release from the Oconee County Sheriff's Office, Carter may be traveling in a stolen 1991 white Chevy van.
