Turns out that February crash will sideline Lindsey Vonn for the Sochi Olympics after all, despite her promises to the contrary and a successful surgery. "I am devastated to announce that I will not be able to compete in Sochi," Vonn wrote on Facebook today. "I did everything I possibly could to somehow get strong enough to overcome having no ACL but the reality has sunk in that my knee is just too unstable to compete at this level." She's having another surgery soon and expects to be ready for the World Championships next February.

Vonn's knee gave out last month, during a downhill race in France, reports People, which has a statement from her rep: "After the incident in Val D'Isere, an MRI showed an MCL sprain, which coupled with the torn ACL, has made it impossible to stabilize her knee and be ready to safely ski again next month." Meanwhile, Russia today rolled out this crazy restricted zone surrounding Sochi. (More Lindsey Vonn stories.)
