(Newser) – Bruno Mars will have help from the Red Hot Chili Peppers when he performs at the Super Bowl next month. Mars announced today that the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will join him as part of his halftime show. Super Bowl halftime performers often have collaborators; last year, Beyonce had Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams from her Destiny's Child days join her onstage, and two years ago, Nicki Minaj and MIA joined Madonna for her halftime show.

Should be good; they're only 90 years old.

The Chili Peppers' music has dated terribly...to my ears, at least. I did enjoy them back in the day, but the most potent memory of my youth in the context of RHCP is not a song or album, it's getting thrown out of Brisbane's old Festival Hall (literally thrown, Old West saloon style) during their gig in 1992. I was trying to escape some Pantera-looking nutter who thought I'd hit him or kicked him. He sucker punched me with a haymaker from almost direct behind me. When I got up off the deck he was charging and in fear nd self defence I planted a Doc in his nuts & ran...into the side aisle, which was out of bounds for anyone in the pit (I still dunno why). And that's when the turfing out happened. Happy memories...
