A student was shot and killed yesterday outside an on-campus dorm at South Carolina State University, and police say they've caught the suspected gunman off campus, reports AP. Brandon Robinson, 20, was shot outside a dorm about 1:30pm, reports the State, which lists him as a junior on the school football team. "He was a good student," says the school president.

Police, originally seeking four suspects who fled the scene, haven't speculated about a motive. They arrested 19-year-old Justin Singleton early this morning in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Orangeburg. It's not clear whether he was a fellow student. The incident comes days after a fatal shooting of a teacher assistant at Purdue and a non-fatal shooting of a student at Widener University in Pennsylvania.
