A suicide bomber attacked an Israeli mall today, killing one woman and injuring seven, in the first suicide bombing in Israel in more than a year. Police shot a second bomber as he was attempting to detonate an explosives belt. “We heard a large explosion and people started to run. I saw pieces of flesh flying in the air,” said one witness.

Palestinian groups lined up to take credit for the bombing, including a militant Fatah offshoot that Mahmoud Abbas’ government had publicly disbanded. “It’s a natural response to all Israeli crimes, which are targeting women and children,” a Hamas spokesman said. The mall sits just six miles from an Israeli nuclear reactor. Investigators say the attackers may have crossed through the Egyptian border. (More Fatah stories.)
