ScarJo Splits With Oxfam Over Super Bowl Ad
Humanitarian organization not cool with SodaStream commercial

(Newser) – Oxfam International says Scarlett Johansson's support of an Israeli company operating in the West Bank was incompatible with her role as an Oxfam Global Ambassador. Oxfam's statement followed Johansson's announcement yesterday that she was resigning her Oxfam role, which she held for 8 years, because of a "fundamental difference of opinion." The international humanitarian organization says it accepted her resignation.

Johansson is to appear in a SodaStream ad during the Super Bowl, and Oxfam said today that it believes SodaStream and other businesses operating on the West Bank contribute to the "denial of rights of the Palestinian communities that we work to support." The charity says it opposes all trade from the Israeli settlements "which are illegal under international law." That's not the only controversy related to the SodaStream ad: CNN reports that it was initially rejected by Fox since it included digs at Coke and Pepsi by name; it's since been re-made.
