(Newser) – Michigan police are investigating a gruesome discovery made on a highway just outside of Detroit yesterday: five bags containing human body parts. Police were reportedly called to the scene when a passerby contacted them after looking inside the garbage bags and finding human remains inside, including a head and a torso; witnesses saw a white or gray 1990s SUV dumping what they thought was trash from the vehicle onto the road. According to the Detroit Free Press, authorities are looking for a middle-aged woman.

Even ravaged Detroit is faster on the uptake than the NYPD. Once upon a time in a poor neighborhood in Brooklyn, something wrapped in a yellow blanket in an abandoned garage in Bushwick Brooklyn, lay putrefying in the July sun for almost 2 weeks, as area residents kept calling the local precinct to have it investigated. Despite the fact that for at least a 4 block square, the whole area stank of death for almost 2 weeks, NYPD refused to investigate it. Finally, someone deigned to look, to find the decapitated body of a man, murderer long gone & most forensic evidence taken by insects.
