(Newser) – Ellen DeGeneres opened tonight's Academy Awards with a few mild shots at the attendees—among other things, she teased Jennifer Lawrence for falling on her way up to the stage last year and then again on the red carpet tonight; she raised her voice so that 84-year-old nominee June Squibb could hear her; and she joked that an interestingly-dressed Liza Minnelli was actually a male Liza Minnelli impersonator (see the gallery to understand why). And then it was time to hand out some awards:

Happy about "Twenty Feet from Stardom". It was only briefly in my area at one art cinema, and I didn't get to see it. As an Oscar winner, I'm hoping my local library will purchase it when I request it. Was blown away by Pink's performance last night.

If "Gravity" had more black, crying actors it may have won best picture too.

Liza Minnelli should have won the award for most unsupported actress boobs.
