Family members are fearful and police are stumped after the disappearance of a beauty queen who apparently vanished while taking out the trash Sunday night. Michaela Wells, 2013 winner of the USA National Miss Nebraska Teen competition, told her family she was going outside around 8:30pm and she hasn't been seen since, the Omaha World-Herald reports. The 16-year-old left her phone and winter coat inside the house, and was last seen in jeans, a "red floor length coat with fur around the hood," and "slip-on black pumps."

Family members began a panicked search of the neighborhood after hours went by and the teen, who had spent the day shopping for a gown for the USA National Pageant, failed to return, Fox reports. Police say they do not suspect foul play and there is nothing to indicate Michaela left against her will, but family members disagree. "Our daughter is one of those people who when she says she's going to come back, she comes back," her mother tells KETV. Michaela's family added on Facebook: "Her friends are in shock as some of them had just talked to her the afternoon before she vanished to make plans for the week."
