Europe Now Spam King

Posted Feb 6, 08 5:17 PM CST in Technology

(Newser) – More spam is sent from Europe than any other continent, Ars Technica reports. Symantec systems’ latest “State of Spam” report said that European IP addresses are now responsible for 44% of all junk emails sent. Only three months ago, North America produced 15% more of the world’s spam than Europe.

It’s not that North America is sending less spam than before, as the total number of spam emails sent is still rising. Rather, European spammers have grown faster than their colleagues on other continents. Symantec said the spam expansion was “significant but not altogether unsurprising when you consider the massive growth of broadband users in Europe in the last few years."
