The 20-year-old California man arrested Sunday on charges of attempting to support terrorism had allegedly plotted to blow up the LA County subway system, the Los Angeles Times reports. Nicholas Teausant talked with "brothers" on Facebook about details of the plan, including a paid FBI informant who connected with him last fall, pretending to also be an Islamic convert. Teausant texted the informant in December, "Don't go to LA Anytime soo[n] … Please trust me on this … and if you do go don't use the subway." In a phone call, he said he and a group may "hit" the subway around New Year's, but later said the plan was called off after authorities were tipped off.

Teausant, a single father to a baby girl, lived in a trailer park in Lodi and attended community college; he once enrolled as an Army National Guard trainee but did not meet the minimum qualifications to enter basic training. (Because he had not yet been officially released, he is currently a private in the reserves, NBC Los Angeles notes.) Online, he said he wanted to "join Allah's army" and "bring America to its knees." He also allegedly discussed bombing his daughter's daycare center because it was held at a "Zionist reform church." When authorities picked him up, on a bus en route to Canada, he was allegedly trying to make his way to Syria and fight for al-Qaeda. If convicted, he faces as many as 15 years in prison.
