10 Lies Homeowners Tell Buyers

Posted Feb 8, 08 6:41 PM CST in Arts & Living

(Newser) – When a homeowner is desperate to sell and a buyer is ready to fork over the cash, the truth about a house is often swept under the rug, MSNBC reports. Watch out for frequent fibs when talking about:

  1. Personality of neighbors and the neighborhood.
  2. Status of home repairs (particularly the roof).
  3. Insect and rodent infestations.
  4. Elevated radon levels.

  1. Legal trouble, like unpaid taxes, liens, and outstanding judgements.
  2. Excessive airplane noise overhead.
  3. Trouble with the building department due to un-permitted renovations and additions.
  4. Water damage and frequent basement flooding.
  5. Quality of local schools and institutions.
  6. Possibility of future disruptive construction in the area.
