Sox, Injured Schilling At Odds Again

Posted Feb 7, 08 10:01 PM CST in Sports

(Newser) – The Boston Herald reports that Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling has a major, possibly season-threatening injury. The 41-year-old, due to earn a guaranteed $8 million in 2008, wants surgery, on the advice of the surgeon who operated on him in 1995; the team, however, has other ideas.

Schilling has a one-year contract with the Sox, and they'd prefer for him to undergo a strength and rehabilitation program; baseball's Collective Bargaining Agreement stipulates that the Sox can nix his contract if he goes ahead with the surgery. Either way, the postseason legend is likely to miss a significant portion of 2008.
