Stones Shine in Scorsese's Doc

(Newser) – Martin Scorsese doesn’t spare the wrinkles in his latest rock documentary, Shine a Light, which opened the Berlin Film Festival with a bang yesterday. These are the Rolling Stones, after all, and Scorsese’s big point, is that they’re fundamentally the same rockers at 60-plus that they were at 20. "There’s something indestructible about their chemistry," James Christopher writes in the London Times.

After a brief introduction, the film gets right to the concert. Scorsese isn’t doing anything ambitious, Variety’s Todd McCarthy points out, but it’s fun and "perfectly enjoyable." And although it’s some of the best concert footage ever, it’s mostly for posterity, writes Bloomberg’s Catherine Hickley; "even this film," she laments, "is not the same as being there."
