The way it's going, the defending Cup champions may request more trips east as Anaheim completed the NYC-area sweep with a 2-1 win over Martin Brodeur and New Jersey. Ryan Carter, having an up-and-down season, notched his first two NHL goals while former Devil Scott Niedermayer won in his first game as a visitor in NJ. Also on the ice:

  • Carolina moved back into first with a 2-1 win at Washington as the Hurricanes registered an edgy, physical effort against the high-flying Capitals.
  • Marco Sturm scored the tying goal with less than four minutes left and Phil Kessel had the only shootout marker as Boston won in Buffalo. The Sabres were outshot 17-1 in the third period.
