Joran Van der Sloot, the elusive top suspect in Natalee Holloway’s disappearance, told Dutch police he was stoned when he confessed to a reporter that he was involved in her death, reports ABC News. Police picked him up for questioning after the apparent confession was caught on a hidden camera and shown on 20/20 last week. Aruban prosecutors said he steadfastly disavowed the confession and said he'd been smoking pot at the time.

“He denies any knowledge of what happened in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway,” and he stood by his claim that he’d left Holloway intoxicated on a beach, said the prosecutor’s office. In the tape, secretly filmed by an investigative reporter who gained Van der Sloot’s trust, the Dutch suspect says that a friend tossed the teenager’s body into the sea.
