Buzzer Beater Boosts Boston Over Wolves

Posted Feb 9, 08 6:34 AM CST in Sports

(Newser) – Leon Powe put back a missed layup attempt by Ray Allen as the horn sounded allowing Boston to eek past the Timberwolves for the second time in two weeks, 88-86. The game marked the return of Kevin Garnett to Minnesota, the former franchise player who was traded before the season. He received a 75-second standing ovation, reports the Star-Tribune.

Paul Pierce had 18 points and Ray Allen 17 for the guys in green. Al Jefferson, who was traded for Garnett, had 18 points, 9 rebounds. Boston, the NBA's top team, has won twice over Minnesota, the league's worst, by a total of three points. "We don't want to see them anymore, that's for sure," said Boston coach Doc Rivers.
