Reckless the dog is back home with his New Jersey family more than a year after getting lost in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. But the weird part is the reunion itself. Chuck and Elicia James tell the Daily Intelligencer that they held out hope Reckless would return but finally decided only last week to adopt a replacement. They went to the Monmouth County SPCA, and the first dog brought to them as a candidate was none other than Reckless. The shelter explains in a Facebook post that the dog arrived in November, though it's not clear where he was before that. "The dog was licking us to death, he was jumping three feet in the air," recalls Chuck James. "He knew the ordeal was over." (More uplifting news stories.)
