Stars Ride the Power Play to Thrash Blues

(Newser) – The Dallas Stars' 6-2 defeat of St. Louis can't be blamed entirely on Blues backup goalie Hannu Toivonen, who left in the second period after letting four goals past. Dallas' win, their sixth straight, also came from capitalizing on three power plays and relying on strong special teams, says the Dallas Morning News. In other icy matchups yesterday:

  • Jonathan Cheechoo nabbed his first hat trick of the season and added an assist for good measure to help San Jose defeat Nashville 4-3 and secure coach Ron Wilson's 500th win.
  • Marek Svatos and Milan Hejduk each slipped two past Robert Luongo and Curtis Sanford as the Avalanche hurtled to a 6-2 victory over Vancouver.
