Big Baby, Boston Hold Off Spurs

Posted Feb 10, 08 6:44 PM CST in Sports

(Newser) – Despite missing Kevin Garnett and starting center Kendrick Perkins, Boston defeated San Antonio 98-90, riding the hot shooting of Paul Pierce, who had 35 points, reports the AP. The Celtics were left with 6-9 "Big Baby" Glen Davis to guard the Spurs' Tim Duncan, who was "held" to 22 points, 14 rebounds. Manu Ginobili added 21 in the loss.

Two of Rajon Rondo's 11 rebounds claim in the final minute as San Antonio scrambled to tie the game. The Spurs, playing without point guard Tony Parker, lost for the first time in five games, and got a good tongue-lashing from their coach for poor offensive play in the third quarter. NBA-best Boston improved to 5-2 during Garnett's absence.
