(Newser) – More than four decades of dealing with diabetes has left Mary Tyler Moore nearly blind, reports Closer Weekly. Its story isn't based on anonymous sources but familiar ones: "Her eyesight is what the big problem is right now,” says longtime friend Betty White. "She is almost beyond the point (of being able to see)." And Dick Van Dyke adds that "she's really having a battle with it, I'm sorry to say." The story says the 77-year-old, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 33, sticks close to home under the watchful eye of husband Robert Levine, a cardiologist.

For someone who has brought so much laughter to all, this news is very hard to hear. MTM has been an inspiration to everyone. She has been an advocate for juvenile diabetes and has done so well in her lifetime with this dreaded disease. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My best to all.
