New York City has dumped a substitute teacher after she asked a 4th-grade class in the Bronx what she should do about her love life. Cassandre Fiering, 45, acted out scenarios with the PS 189 class as they helped her choose between two 30-something men in her life, DNAinfo New York reports. Fiering described the incident, which took place in June of last year, as harmless fun. The kids "were excited to have me listen to their advice," which was to break up with the younger of the two since he wasn't calling her. "It was also G-rated." Be that as it may, the Department of Education began a probe after school officials learned about the "counseling" from the kids, and Fiering was fired in December. She is now appealing that decision.

Fiering tells the New York Daily News that the DOE's report "is blatant lies." She complains that she spent seven hours in the classroom with the five children with no lesson plan to guide her and that investigators deceived and misquoted her. Other accusations against Fiering include telling the class to toilet paper the house of one of the men and touching some of the students on the shoulder and thigh, although she insists that her touching was not inappropriate. "I crossed the line I shouldn't have," she conceded to DNAinfo, but adds, "considering everything else, why couldn’t they say, 'Be careful about that?'" As for the men, she stopped seeing both of them. (New York has dealt with controversial teachers before.)
