Deputy PM Wants Olmert Out

(Newser) – Israel's foreign minister has called on Ehud Olmert to resign, the highest ranking Kadima party official to call for his ouster. Tzipi Livni, who also serves as deputy prime minister, says she's prepared to stand to replace Olmert in the wake of the damning Winograd report. But the majority of Kadima Knesset members continue to back the embattled leader.

The BBC reports that a majority of Israelis support the PM's resignation, and anti-Olmert demonstrations are planned for Thursday evening. Olmert, for his part, says he won't resign, telling a closed-door Kadima meeting, "I am in a personally uncomfortable position, but I will not shirk my responsibility and will fix all the mistakes."
