(Newser) – A 4-year-old girl met a tragic fate in Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday night as people at a backyard party sang "Happy Birthday" to another child, the Daily News reports. Police say the revelers found little Sinaia Moore at the bottom of the 4-foot, inground pool and tried to revive her, but she was unresponsive, reports the AP. Paramedics arrived and took her to a hospital, but she was dead when they got there.

Police say that earlier on, she wore a float vest in the pool, but no one noticed her re-enter the pool without a vest. "I see nothing that indicates that anyone was inattentive, negligent in any manner," a police sergeant told the Columbus Dispatch. "It just seems like this is clearly a sad, unfortunate accident." Many of the 75 to 100 partygoers were singing to the birthday girl, a 1-year-old, when Sinaia died.

Man what a bunch of complainers. Did anyone ever stop to think that maybe this was simply all part of "god's plan"?

I was a lifeguard and pool manager for 7 years and floats and water wings are killers. They give children false confidence that they can swim. There is no substitute for swimming lessons and teaching children who can't swim yet the dangers of swimming alone. What a tragedy.

Most kids are simply drawn to water / pools. Even when told "NO", they sneak back to it. There should always be a designated pool guard when children are at hand. So sad. So very sad.
