Modano's Tally Trips Coyotes

Posted Feb 11, 08 11:32 PM CST in Sports

(Newser) – Mike Modano's late goal gave division-leading Dallas its seventh straight win tonight, 2-1 over Phoenix. For a majority of the game it looked like Dallas wouldn't get anything past Coyotes goalie Ilya Bryzgalov, as he stopped the first 40 shots he faced. But Dallas' Steve Ott broke the shutout inside of nine minutes remaining, and was then followed by Modano, reports the AP.

"I gave my team a chance to win the game," said Bryzgalov, "so it's kind of a tough feeling to lose the game in the last few minutes." Marty Turco, who missed the last two games with a sore neck, got the win with 19 saves for the Stars. Former Star Niko Kapanen had the lone goal for Phoenix.
