(Newser) – Casey Kasem is now in critical condition, a hospital spokesperson in Washington state tells CNN, while a rep for Kasem's daughter confirms to People that the 82-year-old's health is "worse." Kasem was hospitalized Sunday after a long battle between his children and his wife, Jean, and as of yesterday, his children were gathering there to be with him. Despite the gloomy news, the feud keeps getting more bizarre: On Wednesday, Jean Kasem filed court papers alleging that Kasem's daughter Kerri wants to donate her father's $80 million fortune to the Church of Scientology, NBC News reports.

The papers Jean filed this week included an unverified list of alleged celebrity Scientologists, which includes Kerri, but Kerri denies being a Scientologist. Kerri tells NBC Jean's claims are "defamation of character," adding, "I've studied many religions [including Scientology] and Jean will of course find the most controversial one and use it against me." Jean also claims in the documents that Kerri has borrowed more than $630,000 from her father and owes him $1.3 million, another allegation Kerri vehemently denies. The last weird twist in the Kasem feud involved Jean throwing raw meat at Kerri.

I cannot begin to convey the warmth and joy that Casey Kasem and his 'countdown' show brought to me on Sunday mornings driving home from a boyfriend's house... or just getting up and enjoying a long breakfast to his show. What a powerful individual who has brought the magic of music into our lives when we needed and wanted it. I know the devastations of dementia. Perhaps, his family's way of dealing with the strife it brings is somewhat desperate. But, they need to be around him as much as possible and not pulled away striking out at each other. Hope it simply is not all about money. Maybe that is why Casey could not hold on and it broke his strength to fight the disease.

How sad. Casey Kasem brought such happiness through his always-joyful voice, like a kind friend, brother or even father. So sad that instead of allowing this sweet man to pass with dignity, he is surrounded by stupid, crazy people.

"After a long battle between his children".......sounds like his family is killing him, that's today's world, all that most people want at 82 is to have their family around. ....
