Senate Seeks E-mails From Gonzales

Posted May 2, 07 8:35 PM CDT in Politics

(Newser) – The Senate demanded all e-mails pertaining to Karl Rove's role in the disputed firing of eight U.S. attorneys from Alberto Gonzales today, setting a May 15 deadline for the attorney general to turn them over. Patrick Leahy, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which  issued the subpoena, disputes the White House's claim that the e-mails have disappeared.

Leahy cited a statement by Rove's attorney that some some of the "lost" e-mails had been turned over as evidence in the Valerie Plame investigation. The subpoena was the committee's first in the investigation of the firings, and it includes e-mails on both the White House and the Republican National Committee's email accounts.
