Longhorns Upset No. 3 Kansas

Posted Feb 12, 08 1:34 AM CST in Sports

(Newser) – Damion James overcame first-half foul trouble to score 14 points, including a perfect 4-for-4 on three-pointers, as the Longhorns beat Kansas, 72-69 - the third top 10 team they've beaten this season. He "came out and kicked our butt in the second half," said Kansas' coach of James. Conversely, Texas guard D.J. Augustin shot a horrific 1-for-13, reports the AP.

The win moved the Longhorns within a half-game of the lead in the Big 12 Conference behind Kansas State and KU. The Jayhawks, who came in ranked No. 3, had a potential tying shot by Mario Chalmers rim out at the buzzer. KU forwards Darrell Arthur and Darnell Jackson were strong in the middle despite the loss, scoring a combined 35 points.
