EU Raids Intel's German Offices

Posted Feb 12, 08 12:05 PM CST in Business Technology    Most Covered

(newser) – EU investigators raided Intel’s German office today, searching for evidence that the chip maker has broken antitrust laws, the BBC reports. The European Commission has already opened a case against Intel for monopolistic business practices, but officials said the surprise raid was the first step in its investigation, signaling that the company could face other allegations of misconduct.

An Intel spokesman confirmed the raids and said the company would cooperate with the investigation. European electronics retailer Media Markt was also raided in connection to the case, the AP reports. The EU accused Intel in July of giving excessive rebates to computer makers and “strategic service” customers, such as universities, in order to starve out competitors.
