Celts Win Battle of the Battered

Posted Feb 12, 08 11:43 PM CST in Sports

(Newser) – With two of their frontcourt disabled, and a third in foul trouble, the injury-stricken Celtics topped the equally short-handed Pacers, 104-97. Paul Pierce carried the team with 28 points and 12 boards, and breakout bench star Leon Powe added 16 and 9 in the win. Indiana was missing forward Jermaine O'Neal and point guard Jamaal Tinsley.

Danny Granger had 18, 10, and five blocks in the loss. Boston's starting big men, Kevin Garnett and Kendrick Perkins, are scheduled to return after the All-Star break, but the league-leading Celtics have been resilient if not spectacular in their absence; this was their sixth win in eight games without the stalwart Garnett.
