No Kidding: George Nixes Deal

Posted Feb 13, 08 9:28 PM CST in Sports

(Newser) – The New Jersey Nets were on the verge of trading Jason Kidd to the Dallas Mavericks, but Mavs forward Devean George has exercised his right to block the trade, reports ESPN. The NBA's latest blockbuster deal would have sent Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, DeSagana Diop, Maurice Ager, and George to New Jersey, along with $3 million and draft picks.

The controversial deal for Kidd, reflecting a win-now mentality in Dallas, could still go through, but it will have to be restructured. "We're not trying to hold things up or be difficult," said George's agent, "but we don't feel like it makes sense at this time. He's starting right now and things are going pretty good."
