(Newser) – The Eastern Conference’s newest All-Star, Ray Allen, had 21 points as the Boston Celtics defeated the New York Knicks 111-103. Allen was named as the injury replacement for fellow UConn product Caron Butler during the third quarter. Boston’s frontcourt, already without Kevin Garnett and Kendrick Perkins, lost more healthy members after Brian Scalabrine and Big Baby Davis left with injuries, reports the Associated Press. Elsewhere in the Association:

  • Peja Stojakovic's late 3-pointer helped the Hornets beat the Bucks 111-107 in a game where both teams shot better than 50 percent from the field.
  • Kobe Bryant scored 29 points as the Los Angeles Lakers dismantled the young Minnesota Timberwolves 117-92. Lamar Odom had a triple-double.
