Jesus-Themed Cosmetics Fail to Amuse

Posted Feb 14, 08 11:29 AM CST in Business World

(Newser) – What would Jesus use? A line of cosmetics that worked just that angle has been whisked from shelves in Singapore after a Catholic backlash, reports the Independent. The US-made line, called "Lookin’ Good for Jesus," drew criticism over slogans for lotions and bubble bath like “Get Tight With Jesus” and “Guaranteed to help you be worthy and get noticed by the King of Kings.”

The products, made by a maverick company in Massachusetts called BlueQ, were meant to be humorous, but Retailer Wing Tai Holdings received a rash of complaints from offended customers in the 14% Christian country. “Why would anyone use religious figures to promote vanity products? It's very disrespectful and distasteful,” said one local. BlueQ manufactures other offbeat brands, including Cat Butt, Dirty Girl, and Wash Away Your Sins.
