Cupid Lurks on Campaign Trail

Posted Feb 14, 08 12:32 PM CST in Politics

(Newser) – Looking for love on this Valentine's Day? Maybe you should join a presidential campaign, the Christian Science Monitor reports. With the trail drawing energized, like-minded activists, traditionally tame vote-first states are earning new slogans like “what happens in Iowa stays in Iowa.” Indeed, staffers are finding love in all the political places, even inspiring dating websites for politicos.

One ex-Al Gore staffer compared the atmosphere to spring break, noting almost all his 2000 campaign staff was under 30; many of the romances are whistle-stop flings, ending when White House bids fail. But some don’t fold with their candidates: The communications directors for Dick Gephardt and John Kerry’s 2004 bids are still married, a match made in Des Moines heaven.
