(Newser) – Phoenix avenged Monday's loss to the Stars, beating Dallas last night 5-2. It was a crucial win for the Coyotes, who succeeded in keeping alive playoff hopes by ending a four-game winless skid, the Arizona Republic reports. The Coyotes' victory ended the Stars' seven-game winning streak. Goalie Ilya Bryzgalov had 32 saves for the Coyotes.

His effort was rewarded by the improved play of left wing Daniel Carcillo, who after hindering past efforts with thuggish play, kept his composure to score the go-ahead for Phoenix late in the first period. When Carcillo did find himself in the box early in the third, Radim Vrbata came through. Vrbata netted his 25th goal of the season, despite the man disadvantage.
