Ex-Cop Guilty of Murdering Girlfriend, His Unborn Child

Posted Feb 15, 08 11:59 AM CST in US Crime & Courts

(Newser) – A former police officer faces the death penalty after a jury convicted him today of murdering his girlfriend and their unborn child, CNN reports. The jury in Canton, Ohio, didn't buy Bobby Cutts Jr.'s argument that he accidentally killed Jessie Davis, who was 9 months pregnant, then panicked. Cutts, who tearfully made his case on the witness stand, showed little reaction at the verdict.

Prosecutors say Cutts simply wanted to get out of the financial responsibility of another child. The couple's 2-year-old son helped break the case by telling investigators, "Mommy's in the rug. Daddy's mad," the AP reports. Cutts, who claimed that he accidentally elbowed his girlfriend in the throat, then tried to revive her with bleach, wrapped her body in a rug before hiding it in a park.
