Bond film inspires zero-emissions submersible car

The first car capable of diving and maneuvering both underwater and on land is in the works, the London Times reports. Inspired by James Bond’s Lotus Esprit in The Spy Who Loved Me, the sQuba is an electric-powered open-top two-seater that "moves like a fish in the water" and can dive 33 feet down.

“For three decades I have tried to imagine how it might be possible to build a car that can fly underwater," said the CEO of Swiss concept car maker Rinspeed. “Now we have made this dream come true.” When submerged, passengers breathe through facemasks from a tank of compressed air; that design beat out an enclosed cabin because of safety concerns.
