(Newser) – It was a tough night for police horse Greyhawk. He was on duty outside the International Boutique Nightclub in Scottsdale last month when Selma Iris Gonzalez, 25, allegedly slapped him on the butt. The slap was loud enough to be heard even over the noise from the bar, reports AZ Family, and the horse's body moved. "It's not only dangerous for him, it's also dangerous for us being on top of him if for some reason he does get spooked and he decides to run. He could have turned into a crowd and possibly hurt the people on the sidewalk," says Greyhawk’s partner, officer Edward Chrisman. Now, Gonzalez faces a charge of intent to kill or harm a service animal, which police say could be a felony. As for her excuse? She says she was just petting him.

And had this horse "hoofed" this drunken ignoramus to within an inch of her life she would be suing today. Everyone knows service animals, whether working for the police or public, should not be touched. Period. Throw the book at her.

I know this area. It is a very "tight" to maneuver vehicles in. In fact, it is easier to walk around the area than to drive around. Therefore the service animals are a better at moving around. The woman should not have touched the animal, much less slapped him. She was wrong. She was lucky the horse did not turn around and bite or kick her. If she does go to court, I agree with dan6807 sounds like a good case for community service.
