Cops Arrest Suspect in Shrink Slaying

(Newser) – Police arrested an "emotionally disturbed" patient today for brutally slaying a New York psychologist earlier this week, the New York Post reports. Suspect David Tarloff "made statements implicating himself in the homicide," police said, and was identified by four witnesses as the killer of psychologist Kathryn Faughey. Tarloff's palm prints were also found on a suitcase left at the scene.

Tarloff, 39, is also charged with slashing his psychiatrist, Kent Shinbach, who tried to save Faughey in the attack. Tarloff told police he only planned to rob Shinbach, but saw Faughey's door open and assaulted her with a knife. Shinbach had sent Tarloff to an institution in 1991; after his release, Tarloff was arrested in more than one violent assault case and deemed "emotionally disturbed" by the NYPD.
