(Newser) – Saving the environment is rarely as easy as shooting fish in a barrel. But it might be as easy as shooting fish out of one. Enter the Hydrovision 2014. Salmon swim into it, and it gently and quickly sucks them through a tube, spitting them out on the other side of a dam and into the water. The fish go through at up to 22mph, they're misted during the trip, and in just a few seconds they land in the water on the other side. The Department of Energy plans another round of tests next month to see whether the devices should be used to help fish get around dams.

Seems like a pump and syphon would work as well and the fish would never leave the water. Over engineered maybe?
